Lasik |
Lasik is a type of refractive surgery for correcting astigmatism, hyperopia and myopia. Lasik is an abbreviation for “laser-assisted inSItu Keratomileusis”. It reshapes the cornea to produce the clear vision. It is a quick and painless procedure. It gives incredible results. There is no age limit for Lasik surgery. 50 or 60 years old can opt for the surgery. This surgery is performed in three steps. First of all a flap of corneal tissue is created then, remodeling of the cornea underneath the flap with the laser is done and at the end the flap is repositioned. Surgery is done with the patient awake and the patient is sometimes given anesthetic eye drops.
By Lasik surgery the recovery is fast and the eye sight is improved. The patients get better eye acuity of 75% to 85% within 24 hours. This surgery entirely depends on the surgeon. A risk of infection is possible with Lasik surgery, but the infection is very rare. Antibiotic eye drops are prescribed by the surgeon to prevent the infections. Ocular pain may occur immediately or in the long term postoperative period. Some people experience inflammation of cornea due to infection or scattered cloudiness of cornea and some experience effects like increased sensitivity to light, decreased visual clarity in dim light, slightly dryer eyes and halo effects from bright lights at night.
